Major Interaction with Medications used for HIV/AIDS (Non-Nucleoside Reverse Transcriptase Inhibitors (NNRTIs)):

The organism fissions medications used for HIV/AIDS in order to remove them from the body. Garlic can enlarge the speed of fission of some medication for HIV/AIDS such as nevirapine (Viramune), delavirdine (Rescriptor), and efavirenz (Sustiva). Contemporaneous taking of garlic and listed medications can lessen the efficacy of the medications used for HIV/AIDS.

Major Interaction with Saquinavir (Fortovase, Invirase):

The organism fissions saquinavir (Fortovase, Invirase) in order to remove it from the body. Garlic can enlarge the speed of fission of saquinavir. Concurrent consumption of garlic and saquinavir (Fortovase, Invirase) can lessen the efficacy of saquinavir (Fortovase, Invirase).

Moderate Interaction with Birth control pills (Contraceptive drugs):

Garlic oil can lessen the process of breaking some medications down by the liver. Concurrent consumption of garlic oil and listed medications can intensify the effectiveness as well as side effects of these medications. Before taking garlic oil be sure to consult a doctor if you take any medications which changed by the liver.

Moderate Interaction with Medications changed by the liver (Cytochrome P450 3A4 (CYP3A4) substrates):

Such medications as lovastatin (Mevacor), ketoconazole (Nizoral), itraconazole (Sporanox), fexofenadine (Allegra), triazolam (Halcion), and many others are altered and destroyed by the liver.
