A single-herb liquid extract of dried flowers of Syzygium aromaticum, cold-macerated in small batches and offered either as a traditional tincture in organic sugar-cane alcohol or as a vegetable glycerite.

About the plant

A clove is a flower bud that was never allowed to open. The tree is an evergreen of the Maluku islands — the original Spice Islands — and its buds are picked at the moment they turn from green to pink, just before blooming, then dried until they are hard, dark brown and shaped like a small nail; the English name comes through French clou from the Latin for nail. The scent is eugenol, and the concentration in a dried bud is high enough that a handful perfumes a room. Control of the clove trade mattered enough that the Dutch systematically destroyed the trees on every island but Ambon to hold their monopoly.

Tincture: Syzygium aromaticum dried flowers, organic sugar-cane alcohol, distilled water, vegetable glycerin USP.
Glycerite: Syzygium aromaticum dried flowers, vegetable glycerin USP, distilled water.

No added sugar. Contains no artificial colours, preservatives or fragrances.

Suggested use

Shake well before use. Take 20–30 drops (about 1 ml, one full squeeze of the dropper bulb) in 2 oz of water or juice, up to 4 times daily, or as directed by a qualified healthcare practitioner.

Warnings

Clove is very high in eugenol. Do not exceed the suggested amount, keep it well away from children, and do not use it if you take anticoagulants or have a bleeding disorder. Undiluted clove preparations burn skin and mucous membranes.

Reported interactions: Minor Interaction with Medications that slow blood clotting (Anticoagulant / Antiplatelet drugs): Clove can decelerate blood clotting. Simultaneous taking of clove and antiplatelet medications such as aspirin, clopidogrel (Plavix), diclofenac (Voltaren, Cataflam, others), ibuprofen (Advil, Motrin, others), naproxen (Anaprox, Naprosyn, others), dalteparin (Fragmin), enoxaparin (Lovenox), heparin, warfarin (Coumadin), and others can strengthen the risks of bruising and bleeding. Before using, consult a doctor.

Keep out of reach of children. Not for use during pregnancy or while breastfeeding. If you are taking any medication, have a medical condition, or are scheduled for surgery, consult a healthcare practitioner before use. Discontinue use if an adverse reaction occurs. Do not use if the tamper seal is broken or missing. Store tightly capped in a cool, dry place away from direct sunlight.
