A single-herb liquid extract of dried roots of Lomatium dissectum, cold-macerated in small batches and offered either as a traditional tincture in organic sugar-cane alcohol or as a vegetable glycerite.

About the plant

Lomatium is a stout umbellifer of dry rocky slopes and sagebrush country from British Columbia down to California, with finely dissected fern-like leaves and flat umbels of yellow or dark purple flowers on leafless stalks. Below is a large resinous taproot, sometimes as thick as an arm, that smells strongly balsamic when cut. It was widely used by the peoples of the Great Basin and Columbia Plateau, and it came to wider notice during the influenza pandemic of 1918. It grows slowly and digging the root ends the plant.

Glycerite: Lomatium dissectum dried roots, vegetable glycerin USP, distilled water.

No added sugar. Contains no artificial colours, preservatives or fragrances.

Suggested use

Shake well before use. Take 20–30 drops (about 1 ml, one full squeeze of the dropper bulb) in 2 oz of water or juice, up to 4 times daily, or as directed by a qualified healthcare practitioner.

Warnings

Lomatium can cause a whole-body measles-like rash in some people, usually after several days of use; it clears when the herb is stopped. Start with less than the suggested amount. Not for use in pregnancy. The plant is slow-growing and harvesting the root kills it, so we buy only from rotational wild harvesters.

Keep out of reach of children. Not for use during pregnancy or while breastfeeding. If you are taking any medication, have a medical condition, or are scheduled for surgery, consult a healthcare practitioner before use. Discontinue use if an adverse reaction occurs. Do not use if the tamper seal is broken or missing. Store tightly capped in a cool, dry place away from direct sunlight.
