A single-herb liquid extract of dried seed of Platycladus orientalis, cold-macerated in small batches and offered either as a traditional tincture in organic sugar-cane alcohol or as a vegetable glycerite.

About the plant

Bai zi ren is the seed kernel of Chinese arborvitae, a cypress-family conifer with an odd habit: its flat sprays of scale-like foliage are held vertically rather than horizontally, so a tree looks as though it has been pressed edge-on. The cones are fleshy and blue-green when young, with hooked scales that curve back as they open. The seeds inside are soft, oily and pale, and are shelled before drying.

No added sugar. Contains no artificial colours, preservatives or fragrances.

Suggested use

Shake well before use. Take 20–30 drops (about 1 ml, one full squeeze of the dropper bulb) in 2 oz of water or juice, up to 4 times daily, or as directed by a qualified healthcare practitioner.

Warnings

Not for use in pregnancy. Biota seed has a mild laxative action; reduce the amount if the stool loosens.
