A single-herb liquid extract of dried seeds of Paullinia cupana, cold-macerated in small batches and offered either as a traditional tincture in organic sugar-cane alcohol or as a vegetable glycerite.

About the plant

Guarana is a climbing vine of the Amazon, concentrated around Maues in Brazil, and its fruit is one of the more unsettling things in the plant world: a bright red capsule that splits open when ripe to reveal a shining black seed set in a cup of white aril, so that the whole thing stares back like an eye. The seeds are roasted, husked and ground, and among the Satere-Mawe the paste is worked into hard cylindrical bars, dried over smoke, and grated a little at a time with the rough tongue-bone of a pirarucu fish.

No added sugar. Contains no artificial colours, preservatives or fragrances.

Suggested use

Shake well before use. Take 20–30 drops (about 1 ml, one full squeeze of the dropper bulb) in 2 oz of water or juice, up to 4 times daily, or as directed by a qualified healthcare practitioner.

Warnings

Guarana is one of the most caffeine-dense plant materials there is. Do not use if you are sensitive to caffeine, have a heart condition, high blood pressure or an anxiety disorder, and do not combine it with other stimulants. Not for use in pregnancy or by children.

If you are taking any medication, have a medical condition, or are scheduled for surgery, consult a healthcare practitioner before use. Discontinue use if an adverse reaction occurs.
