A single-herb liquid extract of dried fruit of Terminalia chebula, cold-macerated in small batches and offered either as a traditional tincture in organic sugar-cane alcohol or as a vegetable glycerite.

About the plant

Haritaki is the fruit of a large deciduous tree of South and Southeast Asian dry forest, reaching thirty metres, with dull green oval leaves and inconspicuous cream flowers that smell unpleasant. The fruit is a small five-ribbed drupe, yellow-green when fresh, drying to a hard wrinkled brown nut the size of a date stone. It is extraordinarily rich in tannins — up to a third of its dry weight — which made it one of the ancient world's principal materials for tanning hides and for dyeing cloth black and yellow. It is also one of the three fruits that make up triphala.

Ingredients

Tincture: Terminalia chebula dried fruit, organic sugar-cane alcohol, distilled water, vegetable glycerin USP.
Glycerite: Terminalia chebula dried fruit, vegetable glycerin USP, distilled water.

No added sugar. Contains no artificial colours, preservatives or fragrances.

Suggested use

Shake well before use. Take 20–30 drops (about 1 ml, one full squeeze of the dropper bulb) in 2 oz of water or juice, up to 4 times daily, or as directed by a qualified healthcare practitioner.

Warnings

Haritaki is high in tannins and has a mild laxative action. Not for use in pregnancy. Reduce the amount or stop use if the stool loosens.

Keep out of reach of children. Not for use during pregnancy or while breastfeeding. If you are taking any medication, have a medical condition, or are scheduled for surgery, consult a healthcare practitioner before use. Discontinue use if an adverse reaction occurs. Do not use if the tamper seal is broken or missing. Store tightly capped in a cool, dry place away from direct sunlight.
