A single-herb liquid extract of dried plant material of Hoodia gordonii, cold-macerated in small batches and offered either as a traditional tincture in organic sugar-cane alcohol or as a vegetable glycerite.

About the plant

Hoodia is a leafless succulent of the Kalahari and the arid Karoo of Namibia and South Africa, growing in clumps of upright grey-green ridged stems armed with rows of hard tubercles, and carrying, when it flowers, large flat pinkish-brown discs that smell strongly of carrion to bring in the flies that pollinate them. It grows very slowly in an unforgiving climate, it is listed on CITES Appendix II, and material without proper permits should not be bought.

Tincture: Hoodia gordonii, organic sugar-cane alcohol, distilled water, vegetable glycerin USP.
Glycerite: Hoodia gordonii, vegetable glycerin USP, distilled water.

No added sugar. Contains no artificial colours, preservatives or fragrances.

Suggested use

Shake well before use. Take 20–30 drops (about 1 ml, one full squeeze of the dropper bulb) in 2 oz of water or juice, up to 4 times daily, or as directed by a qualified healthcare practitioner.

Warnings

Not for use if you have a heart condition or high blood pressure, and not during pregnancy or while breastfeeding. Hoodia may raise heart rate and blood pressure, and may affect blood sugar and liver enzymes.
