A single-herb liquid extract of dried bark of Magnolia officinalis, cold-macerated in small batches and offered either as a traditional tincture in organic sugar-cane alcohol or as a vegetable glycerite.

About the plant

Houpu magnolia is a deciduous tree of Chinese mountain valleys between three hundred and fifteen hundred metres, growing to twenty metres, with very large leaves and fragrant white flowers up to fifteen centimetres across that open in May. The bark is thick and brown and does not fissure, and it is stripped from the trunk, the branches and the roots alike, all of which are strongly aromatic. Wild trees have been cut hard for a long time, and virtually all the bark on the market now comes from plantations.

Glycerite: Magnolia officinalis dried bark, vegetable glycerin USP, distilled water.

No added sugar. Contains no artificial colours, preservatives or fragrances.

Suggested use

Shake well before use. Take 20–30 drops (about 1 ml, one full squeeze of the dropper bulb) in 2 oz of water or juice, up to 4 times daily, or as directed by a qualified healthcare practitioner.

Warnings

Not for use in pregnancy. Magnolia bark can cause drowsiness — do not drive or operate machinery after taking it, and do not combine it with alcohol or sedatives.

Keep out of reach of children. Not for use during pregnancy or while breastfeeding. If you are taking any medication, have a medical condition, or are scheduled for surgery, consult a healthcare practitioner before use. Discontinue use if an adverse reaction occurs.
