A single-herb liquid extract of dried flower of Magnolia liliiflora, cold-macerated in small batches and offered either as a traditional tincture in organic sugar-cane alcohol or as a vegetable glycerite.

About the plant

Xin yi is a magnolia flower bud taken in late winter while still tightly shut. At that stage the bud is wrapped in overlapping scales covered in long silky grey-brown hair, so the dried drug looks like a small furry brush or a hazel catkin rather than anything floral. The Chinese Pharmacopoeia lists three magnolias for it; this one is the lily magnolia, the purple-flowered Chinese shrub that is one of the two parents of the saucer magnolia grown in gardens everywhere. It is a different tree from the magnolia that yields hou po bark.

Tincture: Magnolia liliiflora dried flower, organic sugar-cane alcohol, distilled water, vegetable glycerin USP.
Glycerite: Magnolia liliiflora dried flower, vegetable glycerin USP, distilled water.

No added sugar. Contains no artificial colours, preservatives or fragrances.

Suggested use

Shake well before use. Take 20–30 drops (about 1 ml, one full squeeze of the dropper bulb) in 2 oz of water or juice, up to 4 times daily, or as directed by a qualified healthcare practitioner.

Warnings

Xin Yi is the flower bud of a lily magnolia, a different species from the magnolia that yields Hou Po bark. Not for use in pregnancy.
