A single-herb liquid extract of dried shell of Magallana gigas, cold-macerated in small batches and offered either as a traditional tincture in organic sugar-cane alcohol or as a vegetable glycerite.

About the plant

Mu li is oyster shell, and it is the one item here that is not a plant. An oyster shell is almost entirely calcium carbonate, laid down by the animal in alternating layers of two different crystal forms — a chalky calcite outside and hard nacreous aragonite within — which is what gives it its strength. Shells are cleaned, dried and ground, sometimes after calcining in a kiln, which drives off the organic matter and leaves the mineral behind.

No added sugar. Contains no artificial colours, preservatives or fragrances.

Suggested use

Shake well before use. Take 20–30 drops (about 1 ml, one full squeeze of the dropper bulb) in 2 oz of water or juice, up to 4 times daily, or as directed by a qualified healthcare practitioner.

Warnings

This is shellfish. Do not use it if you are allergic to shellfish. Oyster shell is mostly calcium carbonate: it can reduce the absorption of tetracycline and quinolone antibiotics, levothyroxine, iron and several other medicines, so leave at least two hours between this and any prescription medicine. Do not use it if you have high blood calcium.

Keep out of reach of children. Not for use during pregnancy or while breastfeeding. If you are taking any medication, have a medical condition, or are scheduled for surgery, consult a healthcare practitioner before use. Discontinue use if an adverse reaction occurs. Do not use if the tamper seal is broken or missing. Store tightly capped in a cool, dry place away from direct sunlight.
