About the plant

Butterfly weed is a milkweed that broke the family rule: cut it and there is almost no milky latex, where every other Asclepias bleeds white. It is a prairie and roadside perennial of eastern and central North America with rough narrow leaves and flat-topped heads of brilliant orange flowers that monarch butterflies and a great many other insects work continuously. Below is a deep, tough, tuberous root, which is what is collected.

No added sugar. Contains no artificial colours, preservatives or fragrances.

Suggested use

Shake well before use. Take 20–30 drops (about 1 ml, one full squeeze of the dropper bulb) in 2 oz of water or juice, up to 4 times daily, or as directed by a qualified healthcare practitioner.

Warnings

This is a milkweed and it contains cardiac glycosides. Do not exceed the suggested amount, and do not use it if you have a heart condition or take digoxin. Not for use in pregnancy. Large amounts cause vomiting.

Keep out of reach of children. Not for use during pregnancy or while breastfeeding. If you are taking any medication, have a medical condition, or are scheduled for surgery, consult a healthcare practitioner before use. Discontinue use if an adverse reaction occurs.
