About the plant

Sha yuan zi is the seed of a flat-lying desert milkvetch of northern China, and it is small: kidney-shaped, greenish-brown, slightly flattened, with a dent along one edge, and about two millimetres long. The plant sprawls over sandy ground with pinnate leaves and small pale purple pea flowers. The name points at Sha Yuan in Shaanxi, the sandy district the best material traditionally came from.

Suggested use

Shake well before use. Take 20–30 drops (about 1 ml, one full squeeze of the dropper bulb) in 2 oz of water or juice, up to 4 times daily, or as directed by a qualified healthcare practitioner.

Warnings

Not for use in pregnancy. Astragalus seed may lower blood sugar and blood pressure, and may add to the effect of immunosuppressant medicines — take advice first if you are on any of these.

If you are taking any medication, have a medical condition, or are scheduled for surgery, consult a healthcare practitioner before use. Discontinue use if an adverse reaction occurs.
