A single-herb liquid extract of dried fruits of Cornus officinalis, cold-macerated in small batches and offered either as a traditional tincture in organic sugar-cane alcohol or as a vegetable glycerite.

About the plant

Shan zhu yu is the fruit of an East Asian cornel, a small tree that flowers on completely bare branches in February in clusters of small yellow stars, well before any leaves. The fruit that follows is an oblong glossy red drupe, and preparing it is fiddly: the single hard stone must be squeezed or picked out of every berry by hand before drying, and how cleanly that has been done is a large part of how the material is graded.

No added sugar. Contains no artificial colours, preservatives or fragrances.

Suggested use

Shake well before use. Take 20–30 drops (about 1 ml, one full squeeze of the dropper bulb) in 2 oz of water or juice, up to 4 times daily, or as directed by a qualified healthcare practitioner.

Not for use in pregnancy. Speak to a practitioner first if you take diuretics.
