A single-herb liquid extract of dried herb of Artemisia absinthium, cold-macerated in small batches and offered either as a traditional tincture in organic sugar-cane alcohol or as a vegetable glycerite.

About the plant

Wormwood is a silver-grey perennial of European waste ground and dry banks, the whole plant covered in fine silky hairs that give it its colour, with deeply cut leaves and, in late summer, loose sprays of small nodding yellow buttons that hardly look like flowers at all. It is the defining bitter of absinthe and one of the bitterest things that grows: proverbially so, in English, where wormwood has meant bitterness itself since Tyndale. Brushed against on a hot day the smell is sharp, camphorous and unmistakable.

Ingredients

Tincture: Artemisia absinthium dried herb, organic sugar-cane alcohol, distilled water, vegetable glycerin USP.
Glycerite: Artemisia absinthium dried herb, vegetable glycerin USP, distilled water.

No added sugar. Contains no artificial colours, preservatives or fragrances.

Suggested use

Shake well before use. Take 20–30 drops (about 1 ml, one full squeeze of the dropper bulb) in 2 oz of water or juice, up to 4 times daily, or as directed by a qualified healthcare practitioner.

Warnings

Wormwood contains thujone, which is neurotoxic in quantity and can trigger seizures. Do not use if you have a seizure disorder or kidney disease. Do not use during pregnancy — wormwood is an abortifacient. Do not exceed the suggested amount and do not use for more than 4 weeks at a time.

Reported interactions: Moderate interaction with Medications used to prevent seizures (Anticonvulsants) : Such Anticonvulsants as phenobarbital, primidone (Mysoline), valproic acid (Depakene), gabapentin (Neurontin), carbamazepine (Tegretol), phenytoin (Dilantin), and others as well as wormwood preparations have an effect on brain chemical compounds. Thereby while simultaneous consumption of wormwood and listed medications, the first one can lessen the efficacy of Anticonvulsants.   

Keep out of reach of children. Not for use during pregnancy or while breastfeeding. If you are taking any medication, have a medical condition, or are scheduled for surgery, consult a healthcare practitioner before use. Discontinue use if an adverse reaction occurs. Do not use if the tamper seal is broken or missing. Store tightly capped in a cool, dry place away from direct sunlight.
