A single-herb liquid extract of dried leaf of Salvia apiana, cold-macerated in small batches and offered either as a traditional tincture in organic sugar-cane alcohol or as a vegetable glycerite.

About the plant

White sage is a chaparral shrub of southern California and Baja California, unmistakable at a distance: the leaves are so densely covered in fine white hairs that whole hillsides of it read as pale grey-green, and in spring it throws up bare wand-like stalks a metre or more above the foliage carrying widely spaced whorls of small pale flowers. The species name apiana means of the bees. Demand from the smudge-stick trade has driven heavy unlicensed cutting on public land in California, and cultivated material is worth asking for.

No added sugar. Contains no artificial colours, preservatives or fragrances.

Suggested use

Shake well before use. Take 20–30 drops (about 1 ml, one full squeeze of the dropper bulb) in 2 oz of water or juice, up to 4 times daily, or as directed by a qualified healthcare practitioner.

Warnings

Sage species contain thujone in varying amounts; keep to modest amounts and short courses, and avoid it in pregnancy and in seizure disorders. Wild white sage is under heavy collecting pressure in southern California.
