Artemisia absinthium (Absinthe, Absinthium, Absinthe wormwood, Wormwood) is a species of Artemisia, native to temperate regions of Eurasia and Northern Africa and widely naturalized in Canada and the northern United States. Artemisia absinthium is a herbaceous, perennial plant with fibrous roots. The stems are straight, growing to 0.8–1.2 metres (2 ft 7 in–3 ft 11 in) tall, grooved, branched, and silvery-green. Its flowers are pale yellow, tubular, and clustered in spherical bent-down heads. Flowering is from early summer to early autumn. The fruit is a small achene. It grows naturally on uncultivated, arid ground, on rocky slopes, and at the edge of footpaths and fields.*

Drug Interactions:

Moderate interaction with Medications used to prevent seizures (Anticonvulsants):

Such Anticonvulsants as phenobarbital, primidone (Mysoline), valproic acid (Depakene), gabapentin (Neurontin), carbamazepine (Tegretol), phenytoin (Dilantin), and others as well as wormwood preparations have an effect on brain chemical compounds. Thereby while simultaneous consumption of wormwood and listed medications, the first one can lessen the efficacy of Anticonvulsants.
