A single-herb liquid extract of dried root of Codonopsis pilosula, cold-macerated in small batches and offered either as a traditional tincture in organic sugar-cane alcohol or as a vegetable glycerite.

About the plant

Dang shen is a twining perennial of northern Chinese hillsides with soft heart-shaped leaves and nodding bell-shaped flowers, greenish-yellow outside and veined purple within. Its root is long, cylindrical and wrinkled, and carries at the top a dense knob of old stem scars that the trade calls the lion's head — a well-formed one is a mark of an older, better root. It is sweet, and it is one of the most-used herbs in China partly because it is far cheaper than ginseng.

Glycerite: Codonopsis pilosula dried root, vegetable glycerin USP, distilled water.

No added sugar. Contains no artificial colours, preservatives or fragrances.

Suggested use

Shake well before use. Take 20–30 drops (about 1 ml, one full squeeze of the dropper bulb) in 2 oz of water or juice, up to 4 times daily, or as directed by a qualified healthcare practitioner.
