A single-herb liquid extract of dried roots of Panax ginseng, cold-macerated in small batches and offered either as a traditional tincture in organic sugar-cane alcohol or as a vegetable glycerite.

About the plant

Ginseng is a slow shade perennial of Korean and north-east Chinese woodland, and a root is not worth lifting before its fourth or fifth autumn. Red ginseng is not a different plant but a different process: the fresh root is steamed and then dried, which turns it translucent, reddish-amber and hard as a piece of wood, where white ginseng is simply peeled and air-dried. Old roots fork and branch in ways that can suggest a human figure with arms and legs, which is what the Chinese name ren shen — man root — refers to, and why the strangest-looking specimens have always fetched the highest prices.

Tincture: Panax ginseng dried roots, organic sugar-cane alcohol, distilled water, vegetable glycerin USP.
Glycerite: Panax ginseng dried roots, vegetable glycerin USP, distilled water.

No added sugar. Contains no artificial colours, preservatives or fragrances.

Suggested use

Shake well before use. Take 20–30 drops (about 1 ml, one full squeeze of the dropper bulb) in 2 oz of water or juice, up to 4 times daily, or as directed by a qualified healthcare practitioner.

Warnings

Do not take ginseng late in the day. Not for use in pregnancy. Speak to a practitioner first if you have high blood pressure or a hormone-sensitive condition, or if you take warfarin, diabetes medication or MAO inhibitors.

Keep out of reach of children. Not for use during pregnancy or while breastfeeding. If you are taking any medication, have a medical condition, or are scheduled for surgery, consult a healthcare practitioner before use. Discontinue use if an adverse reaction occurs. Do not use if the tamper seal is broken or missing. Store tightly capped in a cool, dry place away from direct sunlight.
