A single-herb liquid extract of dried roots of Panax notoginseng, cold-macerated in small batches and offered either as a traditional tincture in organic sugar-cane alcohol or as a vegetable glycerite.

About the plant

Notoginseng is a true Panax, a close relative of Asian and American ginseng, and it is grown almost entirely in Yunnan and neighbouring Guangxi under low slatted shade houses that mimic forest light. The plant needs three years in the ground before lifting. The dried root is hard, waxy and grey-brown, with a lumpy body and short side branches, and it is graded by count: the number of roots it takes to make a unit of weight, so a low count means big roots and a high price. It is effectively extinct in the wild.

Glycerite: Panax notoginseng dried roots, vegetable glycerin USP, distilled water.

No added sugar. Contains no artificial colours, preservatives or fragrances.

Suggested use

Shake well before use. Take 20–30 drops (about 1 ml, one full squeeze of the dropper bulb) in 2 oz of water or juice, up to 4 times daily, or as directed by a qualified healthcare practitioner.

Warnings

Notoginseng affects platelet function and can increase bleeding. Do not use it with warfarin, aspirin, clopidogrel or other anticoagulant and antiplatelet medicines without medical advice, and stop use at least two weeks before any surgery or dental extraction. Not for use in pregnancy. It may also lower blood sugar — take care if you are on diabetes medication.

Keep out of reach of children. Not for use during pregnancy or while breastfeeding. If you are taking any medication, have a medical condition, or are scheduled for surgery, consult a healthcare practitioner before use. Discontinue use if an adverse reaction occurs. Do not use if the tamper seal is broken or missing. Store tightly capped in a cool, dry place away from direct sunlight.
