About the plant

Birch bark is white because of betulin, a waxy compound that makes up a large fraction of the outer bark, and betulin is also why birch bark barely rots. Birch-bark letters written in Novgorod eight hundred years ago came out of the soil legible, and birch-bark tar recovered from Neanderthal sites is far older than that. The silver birch is the one with drooping twigs, warty when young, and a trunk that turns black and rugged at the base with age. This listing is the leaf.

No added sugar. Contains no artificial colours, preservatives or fragrances.

Suggested use

Shake well before use. Take 20–30 drops (about 1 ml, one full squeeze of the dropper bulb) in 2 oz of water or juice, up to 4 times daily, or as directed by a qualified healthcare practitioner.

Warnings

Avoid this if you are allergic to birch pollen; birch leaf can provoke the same reaction. Not for use if you have impaired kidney or heart function with fluid retention.
