A single-herb liquid extract of dried bark of Viburnum prunifolium, cold-macerated in small batches and offered either as a traditional tincture in organic sugar-cane alcohol or as a vegetable glycerite.

About the plant

Black haw is a small tree or large shrub of the eastern North American woods, and it is easy to mistake for a wild plum until it flowers: the leaves are finely toothed ovals like a plum's, but the flowers come in flat white cymes and the fruit is a blue-black drupe with a waxy bloom, sweet when fully ripe after frost. The bark of the trunk breaks into small square blocks like alligator hide.

Suggested use

Shake well before use. Take 20–30 drops (about 1 ml, one full squeeze of the dropper bulb) in 2 oz of water or juice, up to 4 times daily, or as directed by a qualified healthcare practitioner.

Warnings

Not for use in pregnancy without the guidance of a midwife or practitioner. Black haw contains salicylates: do not use if you are allergic to aspirin, and not with anticoagulants. Not for anyone with a history of kidney stones.
