A single-herb liquid extract of dried root of Isatis tinctoria, cold-macerated in small batches and offered either as a traditional tincture in organic sugar-cane alcohol or as a vegetable glycerite.

About the plant

Ban lan gen is the root of woad, the same biennial crucifer that gave Europe its blue dye before Indian indigo arrived. In China it is grown for the plant rather than the pigment, and root and leaf are two separate drugs: ban lan gen is the root, da qing ye the leaf. The root is long, tapering and pale greyish-yellow, wrinkled lengthwise, with a slightly sweet then bitter taste, and it is lifted in autumn of the first year before the plant bolts.

Glycerite: Isatis tinctoria dried root, vegetable glycerin USP, distilled water.

No added sugar. Contains no artificial colours, preservatives or fragrances.

Suggested use

Shake well before use. Take 20–30 drops (about 1 ml, one full squeeze of the dropper bulb) in 2 oz of water or juice, up to 4 times daily, or as directed by a qualified healthcare practitioner.

Warnings

Not for use in pregnancy. Do not exceed the suggested amount or use continuously for long periods.
