A single-herb liquid extract of dried root of Ceanothus americanus, cold-macerated in small batches and offered either as a traditional tincture in organic sugar-cane alcohol or as a vegetable glycerite.

About the plant

Red root is a low deciduous shrub of dry open woodland and prairie edge across eastern North America, with toothed three-veined leaves and dense conical clusters of tiny white flowers. Its name comes from the root system, which is disproportionately large, deep and a strong red inside, and which lets the plant survive fire and drought that kill everything above ground. During the American Revolution the dried leaves were brewed as a substitute for imported tea, which is the other name it goes by: New Jersey tea.

Suggested use

Shake well before use. Take 20–30 drops (about 1 ml, one full squeeze of the dropper bulb) in 2 oz of water or juice, up to 4 times daily, or as directed by a qualified healthcare practitioner.

Warnings

Not for use in pregnancy. Red root may add to the effect of anticoagulants.
