A single-herb liquid extract of dried mushroom of Ophiocordyceps sinensis, cold-macerated in small batches and offered either as a traditional tincture in organic sugar-cane alcohol or as a vegetable glycerite.

About the plant

This is a fungus that hunts. Its spores infect the larva of ghost moths living in the soil of the Tibetan plateau between three and five thousand metres; the fungus consumes the caterpillar from inside over a winter, leaving the shape of it intact and filled with mycelium, and in spring pushes a single slim dark club up through the turf. The Tibetan name, yartsa gunbu, means summer grass, winter worm. Collecting it is a season that empties whole villages onto the hillsides, and good material has traded at prices well above gold by weight, which is why most of what reaches the market is cultivated instead.

No added sugar. Contains no artificial colours, preservatives or fragrances.

Suggested use

Shake well before use. Take 20–30 drops (about 1 ml, one full squeeze of the dropper bulb) in 2 oz of water or juice, up to 4 times daily, or as directed by a qualified healthcare practitioner.

Warnings

Most material traded as cordyceps is cultivated Cordyceps militaris or fermented mycelium rather than wild caterpillar fungus, which is scarce and extremely expensive. Not for use in pregnancy or by anyone taking immunosuppressants.

Keep out of reach of children. Not for use during pregnancy or while breastfeeding. If you are taking any medication, have a medical condition, or are scheduled for surgery, consult a healthcare practitioner before use. Discontinue use if an adverse reaction occurs. Do not use if the tamper seal is broken or missing. Store tightly capped in a cool, dry place away from direct sunlight.
