A single-herb liquid extract of dried root of Polygonum cuspidatum, cold-macerated in small batches and offered either as a traditional tincture in organic sugar-cane alcohol or as a vegetable glycerite.

About the plant

This is Japanese knotweed, and its reputation is deserved. Hollow bamboo-like stems speckled with purple shoot up three metres in a single season from rhizomes that run several metres down and sideways, and a fragment of rhizome the size of a fingernail will start a new colony. It comes up through tarmac and into foundations; in Britain its presence on a plot can stop a mortgage. What is collected is that rhizome, which in Chinese practice is hu zhang, and which happens to be one of the richest plant sources of resveratrol.

No added sugar. Contains no artificial colours, preservatives or fragrances.

Suggested use

Shake well before use. Take 20–30 drops (about 1 ml, one full squeeze of the dropper bulb) in 2 oz of water or juice, up to 4 times daily, or as directed by a qualified healthcare practitioner.

Warnings

Not for use in pregnancy. Japanese knotweed may add to the effect of anticoagulant and antiplatelet medication, and may affect how the liver clears other drugs; check with a pharmacist if you take any prescription medicine.

Keep out of reach of children. Not for use during pregnancy or while breastfeeding. If you are taking any medication, have a medical condition, or are scheduled for surgery, consult a healthcare practitioner before use. Discontinue use if an adverse reaction occurs.
