A single-herb liquid extract of dried root of Caralluma adscendens var. fimbriata, cold-macerated in small batches and offered either as a traditional tincture in organic sugar-cane alcohol or as a vegetable glycerite.

About the plant

Caralluma looks like a small cactus and is not one. It is a leafless succulent of the milkweed family, native to the dry scrub of peninsular India, growing in clumps of four-angled grey-green stems a hand or two high. Its flowers are small, dark maroon, star-shaped and smell of carrion, which is exactly the point: the pollinators it wants are flies. In Andhra Pradesh and Tamil Nadu the stems are eaten raw, cooked as a vegetable and made into pickles and chutneys, and were long relied on as a food through drought.

Suggested use

Shake well before use. Take 20–30 drops (about 1 ml, one full squeeze of the dropper bulb) in 2 oz of water or juice, up to 4 times daily, or as directed by a qualified healthcare practitioner.
