A single-herb liquid extract of dried fruit of Capsicum annuum, cold-macerated in small batches and offered either as a traditional tincture in organic sugar-cane alcohol or as a vegetable glycerite.

About the plant

Every bell pepper, jalapeno, cayenne, poblano, serrano and paprika is the same species, domesticated in Mexico perhaps six thousand years ago and pulled since in every direction a breeder could think of. The heat is capsaicin, and it is made not in the seeds but in the pale spongy placenta they are attached to, so scraping that out takes most of the burn with it. Capsaicin binds a receptor that mammals use to sense heat but birds do not have — which is the whole design, since a bird swallows the fruit and drops the seed intact somewhere useful, and a mammal would only grind it up.

Tincture: Capsicum annuum dried fruit, organic sugar-cane alcohol, distilled water, vegetable glycerin USP.
Glycerite: Capsicum annuum dried fruit, vegetable glycerin USP, distilled water.

No added sugar. Contains no artificial colours, preservatives or fragrances.

Suggested use

Shake well before use. Take 20–30 drops (about 1 ml, one full squeeze of the dropper bulb) in 2 oz of water or juice, up to 4 times daily, or as directed by a qualified healthcare practitioner.

Warnings

Chilli is a strong irritant. Do not use if you have a stomach ulcer, reflux or inflammatory bowel disease, keep it away from eyes and broken skin, and wash your hands after handling.

Keep out of reach of children. Not for use during pregnancy or while breastfeeding. If you are taking any medication, have a medical condition, or are scheduled for surgery, consult a healthcare practitioner before use. Discontinue use if an adverse reaction occurs. Do not use if the tamper seal is broken or missing. Store tightly capped in a cool, dry place away from direct sunlight.
