A single-herb liquid extract of dried fruits of Trigonella foenum-graecum, cold-macerated in small batches and offered either as a traditional tincture in organic sugar-cane alcohol or as a vegetable glycerite.

About the plant

Fenugreek is a small annual legume of the eastern Mediterranean and western Asia with clover-like trifoliate leaves, small pale yellow flowers, and long slender curved pods drawn out into a beak, each holding ten to twenty hard angular yellow-brown seeds with a deep diagonal groove. The smell is the striking thing: strongly of maple syrup, from sotolon, the same compound that dominates maple and that fenugreek is used to imitate it with. The Latin name means Greek hay.

No added sugar. Contains no artificial colours, preservatives or fragrances.

Suggested use

Shake well before use. Take 20–30 drops (about 1 ml, one full squeeze of the dropper bulb) in 2 oz of water or juice, up to 4 times daily, or as directed by a qualified healthcare practitioner.

Warnings

Not for use in pregnancy — fenugreek stimulates the uterus. It may lower blood sugar; take care if you are on diabetes medication. People allergic to peanuts or chickpeas may react to it. It can give sweat and urine a maple smell, which is harmless.

Reported interactions: Moderate Interaction with Medications for diabetes (Antidiabetes drugs): Fenugreek has an effect of reducing blood sugar level of the body. Antidiabetes drugs such as glimepiride (Amaryl), glyburide (DiaBeta, Glynase PresTab, Micronase), insulin, pioglitazone (Actos), rosiglitazone (Avandia), chlorpropamide (Diabinese), glipizide (Glucotrol), tolbutamide (Orinase), and others have decreasing pressure properties as well. Thereby contemporaneous using of fenugreek and listed medications can decrease your blood sugar to the life-threatening rate. Observe the level of blood sugar vigilantly. Consult a doctor, perhaps the dosage of your diabetes medications need to be altered. Moderate Interaction with Medications that slow blood clotting (Anticoagulant / Antiplatelet drugs): Fenugreek can decelerate blood clotting. Simultaneous taking of fenugreek and antiplatelet medications such as aspirin, clopidogrel (Plavix), diclofenac (Voltaren, Cataflam, others), ibuprofen (Advil, Motrin, others), naproxen (Anaprox, Naprosyn, others), dalteparin (Fragmin), enoxaparin (Lovenox), heparin, warfarin (Coumadin), and others can strengthen the risks of bruising and bleeding. Before using, consult a doctor. Moderate Interaction with Warfarin (Coumadin): Warfarin (Coumadin) helps to keep blood flowing smoothly. Fenugreek can strengthen the efficacy of warfarin (Coumadin). Simultaneous taking of fenugreek and warfarin (Coumadin) can intensify the risks of bruising and bleeding. Check your blood regularly. The dosage of your warfarin (Coumadin) might need to be changed.

Keep out of reach of children. Not for use during pregnancy or while breastfeeding. If you are taking any medication, have a medical condition, or are scheduled for surgery, consult a healthcare practitioner before use. Discontinue use if an adverse reaction occurs. Do not use if the tamper seal is broken or missing. Store tightly capped in a cool, dry place away from direct sunlight.
