A single-herb liquid extract of dried seeds of Linum usitatissimum, cold-macerated in small batches and offered either as a traditional tincture in organic sugar-cane alcohol or as a vegetable glycerite.

About the plant

The species name usitatissimum means most useful, and few plants have earned one better: the stem gives linen and the seed gives linseed oil, from the same species grown two different ways — sown thickly for tall unbranched fibre stems, thinly for short branched plants that set more seed. Flax was domesticated in the Near East around nine thousand years ago and is among the oldest crops there is. The seed coat is loaded with mucilage, which is why soaked flaxseed turns to jelly.

No added sugar. Contains no artificial colours, preservatives or fragrances.

Suggested use

Shake well before use. Take 20–30 drops (about 1 ml, one full squeeze of the dropper bulb) in 2 oz of water or juice, up to 4 times daily, or as directed by a qualified healthcare practitioner.

Warnings

Flaxseed contains cyanogenic compounds and should not be taken in large amounts. Its mucilage can slow the absorption of medicines taken at the same time, so leave at least two hours between this and any prescription medicine. Do not use if you have an intestinal obstruction or a narrowed oesophagus. Flax may lower blood sugar, and it may add to the effect of anticoagulant medicines.

Keep out of reach of children. Not for use during pregnancy or while breastfeeding. If you are taking any medication, have a medical condition, or are scheduled for surgery, consult a healthcare practitioner before use. Discontinue use if an adverse reaction occurs. Do not use if the tamper seal is broken or missing. Store tightly capped in a cool, dry place away from direct sunlight.
