A single-herb liquid extract of dried resin of Boswellia serrata, cold-macerated in small batches and offered either as a traditional tincture in organic sugar-cane alcohol or as a vegetable glycerite.

About the plant

Indian frankincense is a deciduous tree of dry rocky hills across central India, with papery peeling bark and pinnate leaves it drops before the hot season. The resin is got by cutting through the bark and waiting: milky sap wells out, and over two or three weeks it hardens on the trunk into amber tears that are scraped off by hand. It is a different species from the Arabian frankincense of the incense trade. Trees that are tapped too hard produce fewer viable seeds and eventually die, so how a supplier manages its stands matters more here than with most botanicals.

No added sugar. Contains no artificial colours, preservatives or fragrances.

Suggested use

Shake well before use. Take 20–30 drops (about 1 ml, one full squeeze of the dropper bulb) in 2 oz of water or juice, up to 4 times daily, or as directed by a qualified healthcare practitioner.

Warnings

Not for use in pregnancy. Boswellia may add to the effect of anticoagulant medication.
