A single-herb liquid extract of dried root of Eutrochium purpureum, cold-macerated in small batches and offered either as a traditional tincture in organic sugar-cane alcohol or as a vegetable glycerite.

About the plant

Joe-Pye weed is a tall North American wetland perennial, standing to two metres in wet meadows and along stream banks, with coarse lance-shaped leaves set in whorls of three to five around a stout stem and a broad domed head of dusty mauve-pink flowers in late summer that butterflies work heavily. Botanists moved it out of Eupatorium into Eutrochium, so both names are still in circulation.

No added sugar. Contains no artificial colours, preservatives or fragrances.

Suggested use

Shake well before use. Take 20–30 drops (about 1 ml, one full squeeze of the dropper bulb) in 2 oz of water or juice, up to 4 times daily, or as directed by a qualified healthcare practitioner.

Warnings

This herb contains pyrrolizidine alkaloids, which can damage the liver in cumulative doses. Do not use for more than 4 weeks in a year, and do not use at all during pregnancy or while breastfeeding, or if you have liver disease. Stop use and seek medical advice if you notice yellowing of the skin or eyes, dark urine or unexplained abdominal pain.

Keep out of reach of children. Not for use during pregnancy or while breastfeeding. If you are taking any medication, have a medical condition, or are scheduled for surgery, consult a healthcare practitioner before use. Discontinue use if an adverse reaction occurs.
