Guar (Cyamopsis tetragonoloba) Tincture, Gum Powder Liquid Extract

A single-herb liquid extract of dried plant material of Cyamopsis tetragonoloba, cold-macerated in small batches and offered either as a traditional tincture in organic sugar-cane alcohol or as a vegetable glycerite.

About the plant

Guar gum comes from the endosperm of a drought-hardy Indian bean, and it is one of the most powerful thickeners in ordinary use: a fraction of a per cent turns water noticeably viscous, and it works cold, which most starches do not. Most of the world crop grows in Rajasthan. Demand from oil and gas drilling, where it is used in fracturing fluid, once sent the price up more than tenfold in a single year.

Glycerite: Cyamopsis tetragonoloba, vegetable glycerin USP, distilled water.

No added sugar. Contains no artificial colours, preservatives or fragrances.

Suggested use

Shake well before use. Take 20–30 drops (about 1 ml, one full squeeze of the dropper bulb) in 2 oz of water or juice, up to 4 times daily, or as directed by a qualified healthcare practitioner.

Warnings

Guar gum swells strongly in liquid. Take it with plenty of water, and do not use it if you have an intestinal obstruction, difficulty swallowing or a narrowed oesophagus. It slows the absorption of medicines taken at the same time — leave at least two hours between this and any prescription medicine. It may lower blood sugar. Guar is a legume — avoid it if you have a legume allergy.

Keep out of reach of children. Not for use during pregnancy or while breastfeeding. If you are taking any medication, have a medical condition, or are scheduled for surgery, consult a healthcare practitioner before use. Discontinue use if an adverse reaction occurs. Do not use if the tamper seal is broken or missing. Store tightly capped in a cool, dry place away from direct sunlight.
