A single-herb liquid extract of dried root of Hemidesmus indicus, cold-macerated in small batches and offered either as a traditional tincture in organic sugar-cane alcohol or as a vegetable glycerite.

About the plant

Indian sarsaparilla is not a sarsaparilla. True sarsaparilla is a Smilax; this is a slender twining shrub of the milkweed family from the dry forests of India and Sri Lanka, with narrow dark leaves silver-striped along the midrib and small greenish-purple flowers. What the two share is the root and the smell: anantamul root is fragrant, sweet and distinctly like vanilla, and it was used as a substitute in the colonial drink trade, which is how it picked up the name.

Glycerite: Hemidesmus indicus dried root, vegetable glycerin USP, distilled water.

No added sugar. Contains no artificial colours, preservatives or fragrances.

Suggested use

Shake well before use. Take 20–30 drops (about 1 ml, one full squeeze of the dropper bulb) in 2 oz of water or juice, up to 4 times daily, or as directed by a qualified healthcare practitioner.
