A single-herb liquid extract of dried root of Ophiopogon japonicus, cold-macerated in small batches and offered either as a traditional tincture in organic sugar-cane alcohol or as a vegetable glycerite.

About the plant

Mai dong comes from a small evergreen lily relative that most people have walked past without noticing: mondo grass, the dark tufted ground cover used by the acre in Asian and southern American landscaping, with narrow arching leaves and short spikes of pale flowers hidden down among them. What is gathered is neither leaf nor bark but the roots, which carry scattered spindle-shaped swellings about the size of a wheat grain. These are dug in summer, rubbed and rolled, and sun-dried until they are yellowish and slightly translucent.

Glycerite: Ophiopogon japonicus dried root, vegetable glycerin USP, distilled water.

No added sugar. Contains no artificial colours, preservatives or fragrances.

Suggested use

Shake well before use. Take 20–30 drops (about 1 ml, one full squeeze of the dropper bulb) in 2 oz of water or juice, up to 4 times daily, or as directed by a qualified healthcare practitioner.
