A single-herb liquid extract of dried herb of Hepatica americana, cold-macerated in small batches and offered either as a traditional tincture in organic sugar-cane alcohol or as a vegetable glycerite.

About the plant

Round-lobed hepatica is a small woodland perennial of eastern North America and one of the first things to flower there in spring, often through the last snow, on hairy stalks that come up before the new leaves. The old leaves have overwintered and by then are leathery and stained a dull purple-brown, three-lobed, and it is that liver-like colour and shape that gave the plant its name. Note that the tropical liverwort we also list is an entirely unrelated organism that happens to share the English name.

No added sugar. Contains no artificial colours, preservatives or fragrances.

Suggested use

Shake well before use. Take 20–30 drops (about 1 ml, one full squeeze of the dropper bulb) in 2 oz of water or juice, up to 4 times daily, or as directed by a qualified healthcare practitioner.

Warnings

Only dried hepatica is used; the fresh plant is in the buttercup family and contains protoanemonin, which blisters skin and irritates the gut. Do not exceed the suggested amount. Not for use in pregnancy.

Keep out of reach of children. Not for use during pregnancy or while breastfeeding. If you are taking any medication, have a medical condition, or are scheduled for surgery, consult a healthcare practitioner before use. Discontinue use if an adverse reaction occurs.
