A single-herb liquid extract of dried fruit of Rosa canina, cold-macerated in small batches and offered either as a traditional tincture in organic sugar-cane alcohol or as a vegetable glycerite.

About the plant

The dog rose is the wild rose of European hedgerows, an arching shrub armed with hooked thorns, carrying single pale pink five-petalled flowers in June. What follows is not, botanically, a fruit: the hip is a swollen flask-shaped hypanthium, and the real fruits are the hard achenes inside it, packed among fine stiff hairs. Those hairs are the reason hips have to be strained — generations of schoolchildren used them as itching powder. The flesh is best after the first hard frost has softened it, and Britain ran a national rosehip-gathering campaign through the Second World War when citrus stopped arriving.

Glycerite: Rosa canina dried fruit, vegetable glycerin USP, distilled water.

No added sugar. Contains no artificial colours, preservatives or fragrances.

Suggested use

Shake well before use. Take 20–30 drops (about 1 ml, one full squeeze of the dropper bulb) in 2 oz of water or juice, up to 4 times daily, or as directed by a qualified healthcare practitioner.
