A single-herb liquid extract of dried plant material of Cucumaria frondosa, cold-macerated in small batches and offered either as a traditional tincture in organic sugar-cane alcohol or as a vegetable glycerite.

About the plant

Sea cucumber is not a plant. It is an echinoderm — a relative of the starfish and the sea urchin — and this species is the orange-brown barrel-shaped animal of the cold North Atlantic, anchored to rock and feeding by holding out a crown of branched tentacles to strain particles from the current. It is fished off the coasts of Maine and Atlantic Canada, gutted, boiled and dried. We list it because it has a long place in East Asian practice, but it belongs on this page under a plain statement of what it is.

Suggested use

Shake well before use. Take 20–30 drops (about 1 ml, one full squeeze of the dropper bulb) in 2 oz of water or juice, up to 4 times daily, or as directed by a qualified healthcare practitioner.

Warnings

This is an animal product, not a plant. Do not use if you are allergic to shellfish or seafood. It may add to the effect of anticoagulants. Not for use in pregnancy.
