A single-herb liquid extract of dried prepared root of Rehmannia glutinosa, cold-macerated in small batches and offered either as a traditional tincture in organic sugar-cane alcohol or as a vegetable glycerite.

About the plant

Shu di huang and sheng di huang come from the same plant; the difference is entirely in the processing. Rehmannia is a low foxglove-like perennial of northern China with wrinkled, softly hairy leaves in a rosette and tubular flowers of dull reddish-purple. The fresh root is thick, orange-yellow inside and juicy. To make the prepared form it is steamed with rice wine and sun-dried, and the cycle is repeated — nine times in the classical method — until the slices are black, glossy, sticky and sweet rather than pale and bitter.

Glycerite: Rehmannia glutinosa dried prepared root, vegetable glycerin USP, distilled water.

No added sugar. Contains no artificial colours, preservatives or fragrances.

Suggested use

Shake well before use. Take 20–30 drops (about 1 ml, one full squeeze of the dropper bulb) in 2 oz of water or juice, up to 4 times daily, or as directed by a qualified healthcare practitioner.

Warnings

Prepared rehmannia is steamed with rice wine as part of its processing. It is heavy and cloying on the digestion — reduce the amount or stop if it causes bloating or loose stools.

Keep out of reach of children. Not for use during pregnancy or while breastfeeding. If you are taking any medication, have a medical condition, or are scheduled for surgery, consult a healthcare practitioner before use. Discontinue use if an adverse reaction occurs.
