A single-herb liquid extract of dried bark of Prunus africana, cold-macerated in small batches and offered either as a traditional tincture in organic sugar-cane alcohol or as a vegetable glycerite.

About the plant

The African cherry is a tall evergreen of Afromontane forest, growing in isolated highland pockets from Cameroon and Kenya down to South Africa and across to Madagascar. Only the bark is traded, cut in vertical strips from opposite sides of the trunk so that the tree can recover; taken all the way round, it dies. Demand from the supplement trade in the 1980s and 1990s was heavy enough to strip whole forests, and the species has been on CITES Appendix II since 1995, with the EU having suspended imports from several countries. Sourcing is the entire question with this one.

No added sugar. Contains no artificial colours, preservatives or fragrances.

Suggested use

Shake well before use. Take 20–30 drops (about 1 ml, one full squeeze of the dropper bulb) in 2 oz of water or juice, up to 4 times daily, or as directed by a qualified healthcare practitioner.

Prunus africana is listed on CITES Appendix II after heavy over-harvesting for the supplement trade. We buy only material with the paperwork to prove where it came from. Not for use in pregnancy or by anyone under 18.
