A single-herb liquid extract of dried leaf of Gaultheria procumbens, cold-macerated in small batches and offered either as a traditional tincture in organic sugar-cane alcohol or as a vegetable glycerite.

About the plant

Wintergreen is a creeping evergreen shrublet of North American acid woodland and bog margins, ankle-high, with small glossy oval leaves and bright red berries that persist all winter. Crush a leaf and the smell is immediate and unmistakable: methyl salicylate, which the plant does not store ready-made but manufactures the moment tissue is damaged, by releasing an enzyme onto a stored precursor. It is the original source of the flavour, though nearly all of what is sold as wintergreen flavour today is synthetic.

No added sugar. Contains no artificial colours, preservatives or fragrances.

Suggested use

Shake well before use. FOR EXTERNAL USE ONLY. Do not take internally. Apply to unbroken skin only. Dilute before use and test on a small area first. Discontinue if irritation occurs.
