A single-herb liquid extract of dried leaves of Acmella oleracea, cold-macerated in small batches and offered either as a traditional tincture in organic sugar-cane alcohol or as a vegetable glycerite.

About the plant

Spilanthes is a low sprawling annual from Brazil, grown across the tropics, with small toothed leaves and, instead of a normal daisy flower, a gold-and-scarlet cone like a tiny bullseye or an olive with a red stripe that gives it its other names, buzz button and toothache plant. What it is famous for is what happens if you chew a flower head: spilanthol produces a strong tingling, numbing, fizzing sensation on the tongue and a rush of saliva, which lasts a few minutes and which chefs have taken to using deliberately.

Tincture: Acmella oleracea dried leaves, organic sugar-cane alcohol, distilled water, vegetable glycerin USP.
Glycerite: Acmella oleracea dried leaves, vegetable glycerin USP, distilled water.

No added sugar. Contains no artificial colours, preservatives or fragrances.

Suggested use

Shake well before use. Take 20–30 drops (about 1 ml, one full squeeze of the dropper bulb) in 2 oz of water or juice, up to 4 times daily, or as directed by a qualified healthcare practitioner.

Warnings

Spilanthes produces a strong tingling and numbing sensation in the mouth — that is normal. People allergic to ragweed, chrysanthemums or other Asteraceae may react to it. Not for use in pregnancy.

Keep out of reach of children. Not for use during pregnancy or while breastfeeding. If you are taking any medication, have a medical condition, or are scheduled for surgery, consult a healthcare practitioner before use. Discontinue use if an adverse reaction occurs.
