A single-herb liquid extract of dried peel of Citrus reticulata, cold-macerated in small batches and offered either as a traditional tincture in organic sugar-cane alcohol or as a vegetable glycerite.

About the plant

Ju hong is the outer layer of a mandarin peel with the white pith pared away, as against chen pi, which is the whole peel. Chen means aged, and the ageing is the point: the peel is stored for years in dry conditions, losing its raw sharpness and darkening, and well-kept peel from Xinhui in Guangdong is traded by vintage at prices that would surprise anyone who thinks of it as a kitchen scrap. Decades-old peel is a genuine collector's market.

No added sugar. Contains no artificial colours, preservatives or fragrances.

Suggested use

Shake well before use. Take 20–30 drops (about 1 ml, one full squeeze of the dropper bulb) in 2 oz of water or juice, up to 4 times daily, or as directed by a qualified healthcare practitioner.

Citrus peel can change the blood levels of a number of prescription medicines — take advice first if you are on regular medication.
