A single-herb liquid extract of dried bitter peel of Citrus × aurantium, cold-macerated in small batches and offered either as a traditional tincture in organic sugar-cane alcohol or as a vegetable glycerite.

About the plant

The bitter or Seville orange reached the Mediterranean with Arab traders several centuries before the sweet orange did, and for a long time it was simply what "orange" meant in Europe. It is a hybrid of pomelo and mandarin, making a compact thorny tree with glossy leaves whose stalks are broadly winged. The fruit is coarse-skinned and knobbly, the flesh sour and bitter, the rind thick and intensely aromatic — which is why it became the marmalade orange rather than a dessert fruit. The same tree gives neroli from its blossom and petitgrain from its leaves and twigs.

Tincture: Citrus × aurantium dried bitter peel, organic sugar-cane alcohol, distilled water, vegetable glycerin USP.
Glycerite: Citrus × aurantium dried bitter peel, vegetable glycerin USP, distilled water.

No added sugar. Contains no artificial colours, preservatives or fragrances.

Suggested use

Shake well before use. Take 20–30 drops (about 1 ml, one full squeeze of the dropper bulb) in 2 oz of water or juice, up to 4 times daily, or as directed by a qualified healthcare practitioner.

Warnings

Bitter orange peel contains synephrine, which can raise heart rate and blood pressure. Do not use if you have a heart condition or high blood pressure, do not combine it with stimulants or caffeine, and do not use it during pregnancy.

Keep out of reach of children. Not for use during pregnancy or while breastfeeding. If you are taking any medication, have a medical condition, or are scheduled for surgery, consult a healthcare practitioner before use. Discontinue use if an adverse reaction occurs. Do not use if the tamper seal is broken or missing. Store tightly capped in a cool, dry place away from direct sunlight.
