A single-herb liquid extract of dried seed of Pimpinella anisum, cold-macerated in small batches and offered either as a traditional tincture in organic sugar-cane alcohol or as a vegetable glycerite.

About the plant

Anise is a slender annual umbellifer of the eastern Mediterranean and southwest Asia, with rounded toothed leaves low down that become progressively more feathery up the stem, topped by flat umbels of small white flowers. What is sold as anise seed is really the dry ribbed fruit, splitting into two halves. The flavour compound is anethole — the same one that carries fennel and star anise — and it is the backbone of ouzo, pastis, raki, sambuca and anisette. It is not related to star anise, which is a magnolia relative from a different continent.

No added sugar. Contains no artificial colours, preservatives or fragrances.

Suggested use

Shake well before use. Take 20–30 drops (about 1 ml, one full squeeze of the dropper bulb) in 2 oz of water or juice, up to 4 times daily, or as directed by a qualified healthcare practitioner.
