A single-herb liquid extract of dried root of Raphanus sativus var. niger, cold-macerated in small batches and offered either as a traditional tincture in organic sugar-cane alcohol or as a vegetable glycerite.

About the plant

The black radish is a winter keeper, quite unlike the small red salad radish: a round or cylindrical root the size of a fist, with matt black-brown skin and dense, dry, snow-white flesh, and it is markedly more pungent. It was a staple of central and eastern European winters because it stores for months in sand without softening. The pungency is the same mustard-oil chemistry as horseradish, made when the tissue is broken.

Suggested use

Shake well before use. Take 20–30 drops (about 1 ml, one full squeeze of the dropper bulb) in 2 oz of water or juice, up to 4 times daily, or as directed by a qualified healthcare practitioner.

Warnings

Not for use if you have gallstones or a bile-duct obstruction. Black radish is pungent and can irritate a stomach ulcer or reflux.
