A single-herb liquid extract of dried leaves of Turnera diffusa, cold-macerated in small batches and offered either as a traditional tincture in organic sugar-cane alcohol or as a vegetable glycerite.

About the plant

Damiana is a small aromatic shrub of dry rocky ground in Mexico, southern Texas, Central America and the Caribbean, seldom over two metres, with wedge-shaped leaves toothed toward the tip and small five-petalled yellow flowers set singly in the leaf axils. Crushed, the leaves give off a scent people describe variously as chamomile, fig and hay. In Mexico it flavours a pale herbal liqueur sold in a distinctive rounded bottle, and in Baja California it turns up in the local version of a margarita.

Glycerite: Turnera diffusa dried leaves, vegetable glycerin USP, distilled water.

No added sugar. Contains no artificial colours, preservatives or fragrances.

Suggested use

Shake well before use. Take 20–30 drops (about 1 ml, one full squeeze of the dropper bulb) in 2 oz of water or juice, up to 4 times daily, or as directed by a qualified healthcare practitioner.

Warnings

Not for use in pregnancy. Damiana may lower blood sugar; take care if you are on diabetes medication.
