A single-herb liquid extract of dried seeds of Foeniculum vulgare, cold-macerated in small batches and offered either as a traditional tincture in organic sugar-cane alcohol or as a vegetable glycerite.

About the plant

Fennel is a tall feathery Mediterranean umbellifer with leaves cut into thread-fine segments and broad flat umbels of small yellow flowers. What is sold as fennel seed is the dry fruit, ridged, oval and greenish, splitting into two halves. Florence fennel — the bulb sold as a vegetable — is the same species selected for a swollen base to the leaf stalks. The flavour is anethole, which fennel shares with anise and star anise, three unrelated plants that taste the same for one chemical reason.

Ingredients

Tincture: Foeniculum vulgare dried seeds, organic sugar-cane alcohol, distilled water, vegetable glycerin USP.
Glycerite: Foeniculum vulgare dried seeds, vegetable glycerin USP, distilled water.

No added sugar. Contains no artificial colours, preservatives or fragrances.

Suggested use

Shake well before use. Take 20–30 drops (about 1 ml, one full squeeze of the dropper bulb) in 2 oz of water or juice, up to 4 times daily, or as directed by a qualified healthcare practitioner.

Warnings

Not for use in pregnancy in more than culinary amounts. Fennel contains estragole; do not exceed the suggested amount or use it continuously for long periods, and do not give concentrated fennel preparations to infants. Not recommended with a hormone-sensitive condition.

Reported interactions: Moderate Interaction with Birth control pills (Contraceptive drugs): Some Contraceptive drugs include estrogen. Fennel can have of the same impact as estrogen. However, fennel’s effectiveness is not as strong as the estrogen’s one. Parallel taking of fennel and Contraceptive drugs such as ethinyl estradiol and levonorgestrel (Triphasil), ethinyl estradiol and norethindrone (Ortho-Novum 1/35, Ortho-Novum 7/7/7), and others can lessen the power of birth control pills. Moderate Interaction with Ciprofloxacin (Cipro): Ciprofloxacin (Cipro) is an antibiotic. Fennel can bring down the quantity of ciprofloxacin (Cipro) the organism soaks up. Simultaneous consumption of fennel and ciprofloxacin (Cipro) can reduce the impact of ciprofloxacin (Cipro). To avoid this undesirable effect you should take fennel no less than one hour after ciprofloxacin (Cipro). Moderate Interaction with Estrogens : Huge doses of fennel can have the effects of estrogen. However, fennel’s effectiveness isn't as intensive as estrogen pills. Concurrent using of fennel and estrogen pills such as conjugated equine estrogens (Premarin), ethinyl estradiol, estradiol, and others can decline the power of estrogen pills. Moderate Interaction with Tamoxifen (Nolvadex): Body hormones influence some types of cancer. Tamoxifen (Nolvadex) is used to cure and hinder the estrogen-sensitive cancer. Huge doses of fennel can have the effects of estrogen. Contemporaneous taking of fennel and Tamoxifen (Nolvadex) can lower the efficacy of tamoxifen (Nolvadex). Do not take them together.

If you are taking any medication, have a medical condition, or are scheduled for surgery, consult a healthcare practitioner before use. Discontinue use if an adverse reaction occurs. Do not use if the tamper seal is broken or missing. Store tightly capped in a cool, dry place away from direct sunlight.
