A single-herb liquid extract of dried fruits of Garcinia indica, cold-macerated in small batches and offered either as a traditional tincture in organic sugar-cane alcohol or as a vegetable glycerite.

About the plant

Kokum is a slender evergreen of the Western Ghats with dark drooping leaves and a round fruit that ripens deep purple-black. The rind is what matters: it is cut away, salted and sun-dried until it is a dark leathery flake, and in the coastal cooking of Maharashtra and Goa it is the standard souring agent for curries and for the chilled drink sol kadhi. The seeds yield a hard pale fat, kokum butter.

No added sugar. Contains no artificial colours, preservatives or fragrances.

Suggested use

Shake well before use. Take 20–30 drops (about 1 ml, one full squeeze of the dropper bulb) in 2 oz of water or juice, up to 4 times daily, or as directed by a qualified healthcare practitioner.

Warnings

Not for use in pregnancy. Kokum may lower blood sugar.
