A single-herb liquid extract of dried herb of Equisetum arvense, cold-macerated in small batches and offered either as a traditional tincture in organic sugar-cane alcohol or as a vegetable glycerite.

About the plant

Horsetail is a living fossil. Its ancestors were forest trees thirty metres tall in the Carboniferous, and what survives is a genus of small plants that reproduce by spores rather than seed and have not changed much in a very long time. It sends up two kinds of shoot: a pale unbranched fertile one in early spring carrying a cone of spores, then the familiar green sterile one, jointed like bamboo with whorls of fine branches at every joint. The tissue is stiff with silica — enough that bundles of it were sold as scouring rushes for polishing pewter and wood.

Tincture: Equisetum arvense dried herb, organic sugar-cane alcohol, distilled water, vegetable glycerin USP.
Glycerite: Equisetum arvense dried herb, vegetable glycerin USP, distilled water.

No added sugar. Contains no artificial colours, preservatives or fragrances.

Suggested use

Shake well before use. Take 20–30 drops (about 1 ml, one full squeeze of the dropper bulb) in 2 oz of water or juice, up to 4 times daily, or as directed by a qualified healthcare practitioner.

Warnings

Do not use horsetail continuously for more than a few weeks. It contains thiaminase, which destroys vitamin B1. Not for use in pregnancy, by children, or by anyone with kidney or heart disease, and not alongside diuretics or lithium. Some Equisetum species accumulate selenium and nicotine from the soil, so species-verified material matters.

Keep out of reach of children. Not for use during pregnancy or while breastfeeding. If you are taking any medication, have a medical condition, or are scheduled for surgery, consult a healthcare practitioner before use. Discontinue use if an adverse reaction occurs. Do not use if the tamper seal is broken or missing. Store tightly capped in a cool, dry place away from direct sunlight.
