A single-herb liquid extract of dried plant material of Cetraria islandica, cold-macerated in small batches and offered either as a traditional tincture in organic sugar-cane alcohol or as a vegetable glycerite.

About the plant

Iceland moss is not a moss. It is a lichen — a fungus and an alga living as a single organism — growing in stiff curled brown-green straps on open heath and tundra right around the northern hemisphere. It is harshly bitter as gathered, and Icelandic households traditionally soaked it or boiled it with a change of water before working it into bread, porridge and skyr, which is what carried people through bad years. Lichens grow slowly, a few millimetres a year, and take everything they need from the air.

Tincture: Cetraria islandica, organic sugar-cane alcohol, distilled water, vegetable glycerin USP.
Glycerite: Cetraria islandica, vegetable glycerin USP, distilled water.

No added sugar. Contains no artificial colours, preservatives or fragrances.

Suggested use

Shake well before use. Take 20–30 drops (about 1 ml, one full squeeze of the dropper bulb) in 2 oz of water or juice, up to 4 times daily, or as directed by a qualified healthcare practitioner.

Warnings

Lichens grow very slowly and take up whatever is in the air around them, including heavy metals, so origin matters with this one. Iceland moss is high in mucilage, which can slow the absorption of medicines taken at the same time — leave at least two hours between this and any prescription medicine. Not for use if you have a stomach or duodenal ulcer.

Keep out of reach of children. Not for use during pregnancy or while breastfeeding. If you are taking any medication, have a medical condition, or are scheduled for surgery, consult a healthcare practitioner before use. Discontinue use if an adverse reaction occurs. Do not use if the tamper seal is broken or missing. Store tightly capped in a cool, dry place away from direct sunlight.
